Super cool artwork! I love the theme, the skull, the knobs and intricate parts. Great piece! L/F Following

Michael Goguen replied:

Thanks Kristy. This one sold right off the easel after I completed it. The idea of an image of a skull on a video screen first came to mind when I was 11 years old, but I didn't paint it until I was 53.

Michael Goguen replied:

Thanks Lyric, It is very much appreciated. It looks like this one already sold when it was barely off the easel; but I'm waiting for the buyer to make at least the first instalment(this coming Thursday) before I make an official announcement.

Artist's Description

I've had this image rattling around in my cranium since I was about 11 or 12 years old; a skull on a video screen. I'm 53 now, so I've had this idea for a little while. As a child, I knew I didn't want the video screen to be a regular TV, but something more. It wasn't until I was 16 that I learned about oscilloscopes, how they work and how to use them. Although in subsequent years I considered other forms of test instrumentation such as a spectrum analyzer or vector network analyzer, I finally reverted back to the first choice I made in my teen years. The oscilloscope was extremely time consuming to paint but not too difficult to render, since I'm a collector of antiques and other odd items. I pulled out my Tektronix 2465 4-channel oscilloscope and placed it next to my easel to paint as a "still life", but I completely changed the lighting and, hence, the colour scheme in the process. I was under bright, white lighting while painting this, but rendered it under dim red and green...

About Michael Goguen

Michael Goguen

Michael Arthur Goguen : Canadian artist Born: July 10, 1967 I am a self-taught artist who first began drawing when I was old enough to hold a crayon. By the later school grades and into junior High School, my artwork consisted primarily of graphite pencil sketching which I very much enjoyed. However, I wished to add colour to my art as well as start using materials which I perceived, at the time, to be more permanent than pencil on paper(with my limited knowledge, at the time, about paper quality). In 1981, I was living in Aylmer, Quebec. I was not yet 14 years old when I decided to take up the paint brush and start oil painting, which I enjoyed even more than pencil sketching. By May, 1983, I participated in my first...
